In Focus,
Coming from the private estate of the Lur-Saluces family, the 2003 vintage was born while Alexandre, the actual owner of the Fargues estate, was still in charge of the mythical Château d’Yquem. Count Alexandre de Lur-Saluces was actively involved at Château d’Yquem from 1968 to 2004 as the owner and manager of the primus inter pares Yquem. Since then, Mr. de Lur-Saluces has been devoting his time and energy entirely to Fargues.
Yquem & Fargues present a superb opportunity to judge how the same passion commitment to quality and attention to detail can craft two different products (one selling for five times the price of the other) and see where your heart lies and how you can compare the quality of one to the other.
The colour of this bottle of Fargues 2003 is mahogany.
The nose is expressive with notes of apricot, orange peel, quince and almond with highlights of honey and mandarin orange.
It makes me think of a fanfare marching before you: you can hear the music long after it has disappeared from your sight.
